Frustrated Lions fans driven to half naked parking lot wrestling...
This clip of half naked, inebriated fat dudes wrestling in what looks like a downtown Detroit parking lot after the loss to Tampa is making the rounds on sports blogs today. Being it stars some of the best and brightest of Lions fandom, I just had to post it here at TWFE.
Makes me damn proud to be both a (former) Detroiter and life-long Lions fan. Brings a tear to the eye.
Still, this "fight" doesn't hold a candle to some of the numerous fan battles I witnessed at the Silverdome back in the day. Now those were FIGHTS. This is more of a tussle between sumo wannabes.
I'll give them an "A" for effort, but only a "C" in the execution.
As for this clip being some sort of statement in regard to the current state of the Detroit Lions, the plight of the Big 3 and the American auto worker, or the struggles of the city itself, I'll leave that up to you.
Personally, I think it represents the need for the Lions to rebuild their offensive line. Martin Mayhew can start by signing the drunk with the massive butt crack. I don't see why he couldn't push Jeff Backus down the depth chart at left tackle.

Oh my God, if the Lions played a 4 p.m. game or a Sunday or Monday night game, the upper deck at the Silverdome was Thunderdome.
Back in 1990, when the Lions played the Raiders on MNF, I almost feared for my life. There were fights EVERYWHERE. Spilled out into the concourse after the game, too.
No shirtless belly wrestling, though.

You nailed it, Ian. Calling the upper deck "Thunderdome" is an understatement. I saw some brutal, bloody fights at that old concrete bunker off I-75. The crowds were truly hardcore at the Silverdone, compared to the more genteel gatherings at Ford Field.
I've attended tons of games at both facilities, and to be honest, I miss the raucous atmosphere at the Silverdome. It's just not the same at Ford Field, though it's been handicapped by the crap teams playing there since it's opened.

I've only been to one Thanksgiving game, it was the Bears that year, and I really don't remember the score (a Lions loss). What does stand out is a little incident in the third quarter. We were sitting somewhere in the upper deck, a pretty quiet area actually, next to some really large drunk and getting drunker dudes, and behind a father and son Bears fan combo. The son was maybe 7 or 8. Full Bears paraphenalia. So the game went the usual way Lions games do, and the big dudes (not fat, but really BIG) were quietly seething and putting away the beers. The little boy was very vocal in his little boy way: "YAY BEARS WOOOO BEARS YAY DITKA WOOOOOO" and so forth. Another touchdown, probably by Dennis Gentry because I hated that guy, and the boy does his little dance not realizing the danger. He turns around all smiles and WOO BEARS and one of the large gentlemen leans forward and yells FUDGE THE BEARS in the boy's face. The poor kid turns white, gulps, and sits down quick. His dad turns and starts to object but those guys are really large and angry so he turns back and nary a peep out of those two the rest of the game. They exited quickly without looking back the second the final gun went off. Good times! We always used to say, try not to buy a car built on the Monday following a Lions loss. Quality might not have been job one on those days.

Judging by how empty that parking lot is I'd say that happened before the game, not after. I really do miss that old tent in Pontiac. Ford Field is a library compared to it.

I was sitting in the Silverdome in the Packers playoff loss, row one of the upperdeck, about the 40. Late in the 3rd, Kramer had the Lions driving for what would have been the nail in the coffin of the Packers, that place was so loud you could feel the vibrations in your chest, of course Kramer threw a pick in the endzone that was returned 104 yards for a TD and we all remember how that game ended, Farve heaving a desperation throw on 4th and forever that landed softly in the outstreached arms of a distubingly wide open Sterling Sharpe.
By the way, my favorite youtube of Lions fans is this one
