Remember when the Lions signed CB Jason Davis to replace the IRed Demarcus Faggins a little more than a week ago?
But if you blinked, you missed Davis. As the insufferable Hawk Harrelson would say, "He gone".
Per John Niyo at the News:
The Lions claimed cornerback Jack Williams, a 2008 fourth-round pick, off waivers from Denver on Monday, releasing cornerback Jason David to make room on the 53-man roster.
Williams, who was splitting time as the nickel back with Denver, ended up out of a job when the Broncos signed long time NFL vet and former Michigan Wolverine, Ty Law. I know what you were thinking...Ty Law is still playing?
But I digress...
Turns out the Lions won a waiver wire pissing match with Cleveland, Philly and Indy for Williams services, which bodes well for his skill set. At least the Lions aren't the only team who thought Williams would be a decent addition to the roster.
Can Williams help stop the defensive backfield carnage? As always, only time will tell. Though odds are Williams won't be given much time, as the Lions have installed a revolving door in front of the defensive back's lockers.
When it comes to the constant turnover in Detroit's defense, you can't tell who the players are without a scorecard...and at this point, neither can the coaching staff.
