Just admit there's going to be a blackout, OK?

We all know the stands of Ford Field are going to look like this on Sunday:

Empty Ford Field

There is NO CHANCE IN HELL Lions - Browns is going to sell out by 1 PM Thursday.

NO. CHANCE. IN. HELL.

A matchup of of 1-8 teams isn't exactly must see football. More like must avoid.

It's a scientific fact the Lions won't have more than 35,000 asses (I not going to use the word "fans", as I think Browns partisans will be in the majority) in the seats Sunday...though we know the numbers will be padded as the actual attendance will be considerably lower than the announced actual tickets sold.

All of which is why this headline in The Oakland Press' Detroit Lions blog had me in hysterics.

Blackout a possibility

A possibility? A POSSIBILITY?

A sellout is just as possible as Scott Mitchell being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It's as possible as Wayne Fontes being considered one of the greatest football minds of the 20th century. It's as possible as the Lions playing in the Super Bowl while William Clay Ford owns the team.

Sure, it could happen. But the odds are as infinitesimal as infinity squared. Twice.

Start making other plans for Sunday, folks. Because you aren't going to see the Lions on CBS.

I guarantee it.

Only if you live within the blackout radius, of course. They are Lions fans across the entire state ya know.

Point taken, Ratthew.

Actually, you'll be about the only people, along with those in that state down south, who will see the game. Either way, I'd bet this game has a reach of only a couple percent of the country.

Still, a 75 mile blackout radius is a huge chunk of the Michigan population. The great state of MI has about 10 million residents. The Detroit media market, which is within the radius, is 5+ million strong.

At least you lousy can watch it on your TV. I'll be stuck looking for a web stream. If it's anything like the Rams game, a stream is going to be hella hard to find.

Thank goodness for the NFL SUnday Ticket and my living in SW Michigan. I can see the Lions last chance for a victory in 09 live and in HD. 2-14 would sound awful if it were not for 0-16 last year.

I was talking to a Browns fan here in Colorado yesterday and we agreed that this is a game that should not be televised in any market anywhere. If any people in the US see this game it could mean the end of the NFL as we know it and the beginning of the rise of the MLS as America's National Game. All of that being said it will probably end up being a 45-42 barnburner with Jason Hanson kicking a 55 yard field goal to win as time expires and Al will spend the entire day cursing his internet feed as too slow and too spotty.
