Pittsburgh Steelers @ Detroit Lions running diary - 2nd quarter: Will the Lions ever finish a drive?

Steelers start the 2nd with another 1st down play, a Mendenhall run.

Rottesberrger will hand off...BALLBALLBALL! Bad handoff! Shit, Steelers come up with it. Somehow the Lions can't come up with the lose ball, despite having 4 guys right there. Christ almighty, can't anyone MAKE A DAMN PLAY? It's not that hard to FALL ON THE FUCKING BALL.

Roottesberger will throw on 3rd down...PICKPICKPICK! ERIC KING! Wait, there's a FLAG! No fucking way, I know what it's going to be...

Roughing the passer, 15 yards, 1st down.

DT Landon Cohen was blocked into the QB's knees. He BARELY TOUCHED ROETTESTBERGER. It was damn similar to the call Tom Brady got last week. What a bullshit penalty. BULLSHIT. What few Lions fans there are in the stands are letting the refs have it.

Steelers facing another 3rd down inside the 30...Rotterburger to throw...BLITZ...shot...1st down pass to Holmes. Fucking cake.

On 2nd down and short inside the 10, it's Mendenhal around right end, untouched. TD. Hold it, FLAG! Thank fucking God, this one is against the Steelers! 2nd and 11 from the 16.

Fuck, it doesn't matter. The TE screen to Heath Miller works perfectly, as Miller isn't even touched till he gets to the Detroit goal line. TD bad guys.

Lions facepalm

14-6 Pitt, early in the 2nd quarter. The Lions can't do a damn thing to stop the Steelers offense. Not a fucking thing...of course, that's with a little help from the refs.

Enberg just had to bring up the Tigers, didn't he? Fuck them chokers.

Williams ALMOST breaks the return, but is ankle tackled at the 35.

Lions face a 3rd and 9 after Smith is hit before he can even make a juke move in the backfield.

Culpepper wants to throw...he has to throw it into the ground. Huge pressure from the Steelers. Never had a chance...

After the Harris punt, and a holding penalty, the Steelers will start deep in their own territory, inside the 10. I doubt it's going to make much difference.

On 2nd and long, Holmes is WIDE FUCKING OPEN at the 20, tackled at the 29. Can't anyone cover? Wait. That's a stupid ducking question. I already know the answer. Of course not.

Rotteburger will throw DEEP on 1st down...SHIT...Wallace has got a couple of steps on the Lions DB...DROPPED! Whew...Flag! Delay of game Steelers, as Wallace kicked the ball in frustration. That's after a minute of confusion, as it was originally called on the Lions. I have ISSUES with these refs today. BIG TIME ISSUES.

Great, now King is hurt, walking off the field clutching his wrist/arm. As if the Lions needed another God damn injury. They're cursed. Fucking cursed.

Rotteesburger will throw on 3rd and 8, I'm sure it's going to be converted...He looks towards Wallace on the right sideline...PICKPICKPICKPICK! IT'S WILL JAMES! NOTHING BUT GREEN IN FRONT OF HIM! TOUCHDOWN LIONS! FUCKING A'! HOLY SHIT! WHERE''S THE TYLENOL?

Someone on the Lions actually made a play! Whoda thunk it? Not me. Pitt 14, Detroit 13! We have a ballgame!

But the Steelers take some of the air out of the Lions by returning the kickoff to midfield. FIRE KWAN!!!!

And just like that, a run and a pass, the Steelers are at the Lions 38.

It's been many a season since the Lions have shown they could cover a TE. It's not happening this season either, as 2 Miller catches have the Steelers inside the 20.

Rotthoeisberger pass over the middle to Ward...he DIVES...TD Steelers.  Well, that was too damn easy.Steelers took the ball right down the field after the Lions converted a turnover. I guess that's what good teams do.

Steelers now lead 21-13.

On 1st down from the 21 after the kick, Culpepper will throw...SCREEN! Smith has blockers...splits the seam...he;'s all the way to their 44! Nice call on a defense putting pressure on the passer!

We're being told Megatron won't be back. Kill me now. Some sort of knee injury. Seriously, kill me now.

A pass to Northcutt has the Lions in Steelers territory as we hit the 2 minute warning.

Quick check of the stats...Detroit has 52 yards rushing, but 32 of that was a Culpepper scramble. Smith is averaging a whole 1.9 YPC on 10 carries. You do the math...

Culpepper has been efficient. 6-10-95. Meh. He's not making mistakes (save for the grounding call), and moving the ball between the 20's. It's when he's deep in Pittsburgh territory when issues come to the forefront.

Culpepper will throw on 3rd and long...pressured...rolls right...SACK. He lost a SHITTON of yards, as he was taken down at the Lions 44. Lions will have to punt, Pittsburgh takes a TO at 1:04.

They'll start the final drive of the half from their 10 after a nice Harris punt.

Swing pass to Moore gets 7, clock running. Steelers not taking a TO...FLAG! False start, Pittsburgh. Works for me.

0:37 left. Now the Steelers take a TO, in order to avoid a 10 second runoff on the clock.

Rottherburger wants to throw...holds it...holds it...holds it...Complete to Ward at the 30. He had waaay to much time.

After Miller catches a nearlerly picked off tipped ball, the Steelers decide patience is the better part of valor, and take a knee to finish off the half.

In a game closer than anyone expected, the Steelers lead at the half, 21-13.
