As regular readers of TWFE know, long-time friend/reader/commenter Wolverlion, aka Blane, is part of the Hillbilly Huddle. It's aired every Friday and Monday between 7 and 8 AM on the blowtorch of SE MI, 97.5 Y-Country radio, WYTZ FM. Joining our own football expert Wolverlion is 97.5 Y country morning man Wild Bill Lewis.
I'll let Wolverlion explain how he went above and beyond to get this week's picks to me...and why his record is now 4-2-1.
We moved last week and ATT does not have my DSL up and running yet, so I am at the library to get you my picks for the week. The good news is that with the move, Direct TV has me hooked up with he NFL Sunday ticket for the rest of the year so I get to suffer through every Lions loss live. Last week I lost to a girl. Somehow she used her technique of picking who had prettier uniforms to get her to a 12 win week, good enough to humiliate me in front of the listening public and make me doubt my football knowledge.
12 wins? Sounds as good of a system as any to me. Nothing wrong with a good looking, stylish uni. In fact, that's exactly how I picked my fantasy teams.
I've had the Sunday Ticket ticket package in the past (back in my confirmed bachelor days). It's GLORIOUS. One Hell of a way to kill a Sunday afternoon!
OK, enough of the the jibber-jabber. Let's predict some winners!
Houston over Buffalo. I really like the way Matt Schaub is playing right now. Houston has really snuck up on me, and the rest of the NFL. They are going to make a run at a playoff spot. Buffalo is, to put it bluntly, meh. A meh team with a meh coach with a meh owner with Terrell Owens on the team for no apparent reason. Chicago over the Browns BIG in the Windy ( and rainy ) City. The Browns are simply bad. Well, it's better than Simply Red, right? Oh. I'm wrong. I apologize for the pun as bad as the Browns. That's pretty damn bad, and I'm pretty damn sorry. Dallas over the Seahawks, only because it is in Dallas. If is was a playoff game I would take the Seahawks to win on a Tony Romo muff of the extra point. Blane! You just made any Cowboys fan who stumbles onto this little ol' Lions blog cry over the Romo dig. For shame, for shame. On to the next game, shall we?
Did the Cowboys fan leave? Good. WAY TO GO, SIR! If Tony Romo played for an NFL team that didn't get the run Dallas does, he'd be just another guy. But as he plays for Dallas, and dated a bimbo, Romo gets totally overrated. Here it is boys, The Honolulu Blue and Silver over the Awful St. Louis Rams. This is one of 2 games I will pick the Lions in the rest of the season. I'm guessing the other 2 are the Browns and Seahawks games. As for Sunday, I agree wholeheartedly. The Lions will beat the Rams. Won't be a blowout, as nice as one of those would be, but I'd be happy with a win. I'd be ecstatic, actually. Giddy, even. Baltimore over the Broncos, I expect the Ravens to finally hand Denver their first loss. I'm a Kyle Orton guy, 100%! When I grow up, I wanna be just like Orton! Neck beard and all! Does anyone believe what he's doing in Denver? Come on, not even the Broncos' coaches thought Orton would play this well. It's been a weird NFL season, to say the very least. Indy over S.F. The Colts are just plain good, especially at home. What I'm watching is Alex Smith. He was considered a huge 1st round bust, a Millen-esque pick, and spent close to 2 seasons rotting on the Niners bench. Then Smith comes out of nowhere to throw 3 2nd half TD passes last Sunday. The only thing not making this a done deal for a Hollywood blockbuster is the Niners still lost to the Texans. Hell, Hollywood has taken worse stories to the screen... Oh yeah, Indy wins big. The N.Y.JETS at home over the Dolphins. I think Chad Henne is going to be a good pro, just not this week in NY. The Fins become the best 2-5 team in existence when they lose to the Jets. Though I'm with Wolverlion, Henne is going to be a solid pro quarterback. Maybe the last we'll see from Michigan for quite some time, as Rich Rodriguez won't recruit pro style quarterbacks to run his spread. I think the Giants will go on the road and beat an up and down Philly team. The fans there won't care because they are busy worrying about the Phillies beating the Yanks. I'm going with the Iggles, just in hope the entire city blows up if both the Eagles and Phillies win on Sunday. I was going to say the jail at Lincoln Financial Field should be busy as Hell, but I was disappointed to find out they don't lock up Eagles fans at the stadium anymore. When did Philly fans become so...civil? I think the Titans get their first win of the year over the JAGS. Tenn. is starting Vince Young. Any truth to the rumor the whole city is on suicide watch? With Young starting, I got to go with the Jags. I'm not expecting an Alex Smith-like resurrection from Young. But the Titans have nothing to lose...save for more games, which would happen anyway...by starting him. The Chargers big over the Raiders. I told you last week the Bolts had to start playing well sooner or later. Yes, you did, and yes, they do. Playing the Chiefs and Raiders in successive weeks is a good way to get back on track. It's got to happen real soon, or the Broncos will run away and hide, taking the AFC West in a walk. Arizona at home over a Panthers team that is falling apart at the seams. When are the Panthers going to pull the plug on Jake Delhomme? He's a shadow of the they quarterback who took the Panthers to the Super Bowl. Then again, was Delhomme really all that good to begin with? The career stats say he's above average, nothing more. I am taking the Packers at home in the big game of the weekend. I think the emotions of the fans will inspire the green and gold. Either that, or the Cheeseheads draw and quarter Favre before he hits the semi-frozen tundra at Lambeau. I'm thinking the Vikings luck is finally running out. Monday night, I like the Saints to remain unbeaten. The Falcons will not go quietly, but they will go all the same. Saints continue to dominate, and stay undefeated. Drew Brees continues his run at a league MVP. Couldn't the Lions had drafted him a few years back? Sure could have, as Brees didn't go untill the 1st pick of the 2nd round in '01. But Millen decieded to go with his gut and take...Jeff Backus. //facepalm// Of course, the Lions had no use for Brees, as they were set at quarterback with Charlie Batch, Ty Detmer and Mike McMahon. //double facepalm//
