UPDATED 10PM: According to an media relations email from the Detroit Lions, it appears Zack Follett is going to be fine.
“Both the MRI and CT tests performed on Zack this evening at the Hackensack Medical Center were NEGATIVE. Zack is resting comfortably and has feeling and movement in all of his extremities. He will continue to be monitored throughout the evening. We expect no further updates until Monday.”
That's a relief. Let's hope this incident doesn't affect Follett's career in the long-term.
UPDATED 6:45PM: There's more information regarding the injuries to both Follett and Hill.
Mlive's Killer Kowalski has the latest on Zack Follett, an announcement fromHackensack Medical Center.
"There is no evidence at this point of a fracture of the cervical spine. He has movement in all four extremities. Zack will remain here tonight and will continue to undergo extensive tests and evaluation.''
Sounds as if Follett is doing well, considering the the originally severity of the situation. Keep thinking good thoughts, everyone.
FOX 2's Jennifer Hammond posted an update about Shaun Hill's injury status on her Twitter feed.
Lions QB Shaun Hill is staying in New York area to undergo surgery on his broken left forearm.
Let's hope seven weeks is enough for Matthew Stafford shoulder to fully heal. Otherwise, it's Drew Stanton's team. Keep in mind, with Hill down, Stanton will now be the number two quarterback for the next 4-6 weeks.
At the very least, Hill went down early enough against the Giants for Stanton to show he could keep the Lions in a game. That's a definite improvement over the Stanton we saw last season.
UPDATED 6PM: Jim Schwartz spoke about Follett's injury, the relevant quotes are up on DetroitLions.com.
Head Coach Jim Schwartz after the game: “Zack Follett is getting some tests right now. We don’t have the results of those tests, but he’s got feeling in his extremities and was getting some of that back before he left the field. There’s still a lot of other things that we need to test and that we need to see with him. Let’s keep him in our prayers.”
Original post: Getting caught up in the doing the running diary, I'm not able to catch up with the off field news until the Lions game ends. I'm just now learning the latest as to Shaun Hill and Zack Follett.
First, the bad news.
Via the Detroit News' Tim Twentyman:
Shaun Hill has broken left forearm. Good news that it's his left arm, but still looking at probably 3-6.
The football Gods HATE the Lions. Really, it the only explanation I can come up with at the moment.Thank goodness the Lions have a bye week coming up. This is one badly banged up roster.
Now some better news about Zack Follett.
Once again, via Twentyman:
Linebacker Zack Follett has been transported to a local New York hospital. He is conscious and has some feeling in his arms and legs.
He's not out of the woods by any means, but the early report is encouraging.
Sad to say a Rutgers player wasn't so lucky on the same field Saturday, as he suffered a spinal cord injury while making a tackle on a kickoff return, the same type of play which injured Follett.
Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand suffered a spinal cord injury Saturday in the Scarlet Knights' 23-20 overtime victory against Army and has no movement below his neck, the school announced today.
I'll be thinking good thoughts about all the players. I'll post more about the young linebacker's status as it's released.
