On the opening drinve, the Lions made swiss cheese of the Rams defense, using a mixture of short passes, runs  and Ram defensive suckiness to drive inside the 20. On 2nmd and long from the 18, the Lions pick up the blitz as Stafford finds Heller inside the 3.

But on 1st and goal, with Lions fnas going ape shit nuts...DISASTER. Stafford threw an awful pass toward a lined up on the outside Scheffler which Janoris Jenkins stepped in front of at the goal line and returned for 34 yards.

pick
Words fail me.

Stafford was 7-9 on the drive. But the final play was infuriating.

Of course, the Lions allow the Rams to convert a 3rd and 9 on a 15 yard pass and a 3rd and short on a Stephen Jackoson off tackle run, keeping their drive alive.

But there was also a moronic personal foul call...but it wasn't on the Lions!

15 yards
Nice to see the other team act like idiots...

This ultimately forced the Rams to settle for a 47 yard FG attempt...which they converted. That was a 10 point swing. What should have been a 7-0 Lions lead truned into a 3-0 Lions deficit.

The 1st quarter ends on an 11 yard Titus Young ramble on an end around to their own 41. The Lions lead in total , passing and rushing yardage along with time of posession, but trail on the scorebard 3-0.

To be honest, I'm not sure how to react. The Lions offense looks good, but a dumb mistake just killed them.

On 2nd and 2, Smith tried to cut and tackles himself, setting up 3rd and 4 from the 47.

No worries, Megatron converts the 1st down on a slant. I have a man cxrush on that man.

Then Smith makes up for running on ice by breaking a 19 yard run to move the Lions deepm in Rams territory.

On 2nd down from the 12, FOX's Chris Meyers yells "END ZONE!" as Johnson makes a catch at the 2. OK then.

On 2nd and goal, the home grown running back from Wayne State, Joique Bell, pounds the ball into the end zone on his 1st career carry for his first career TD!

Bell TD
What the guy on the bottom left is looking at, who the Hell knows?

Of course, there is a video review to stretch out the running time of the game. The TD is conrifmed, the Lions taking a 7-3 lead with 9:26 left in the half.

And with the PAT, Jason Hanson becomes tjhe first player in NFL history to play 21 seasons with 1 team. That much of it was spent during the God awful Millen years makes Hanson's feat even more amazing.

Jason hanson

Close up of Jason Hanson...

The Rams face 3rd and long, Bradford has a shit ton of time to throw...and he sees this.

Florence
But Drayton Florence makes up the gap on a wide open Givens...

Florence 2

Touchdown SAVED.

The Lions get the ball back, and are driving. Stafford wants to throw to Pettigrew...and Dunbar cuts under for the Rams' 2nd drive ending pick of the game.

My reaction?

wat

Affter the pick, Meyers goes into the a "Rams revial" after less than a half of ffootball. Sure, if you say so. I think it's more of Stafford not making smart throws.

The Rams drive to the 7, but huge sack by Nick Fairley on 3rd and 5 forces the Rams to settle for 3.

sack

Bullet dodged.

Now stop with the fucking picks!

The 2 minute warning arrives with the Lions with a 2nd and 6 inside the 20.

Meyers: "The story is how the Rams are hanging with this playoff team."

As if on cue, Stafford throws another God awful pick, which is returned for an easy Rams TD by Finnegan.

pick 3

The Rams are no longer hanging with the Lions, they are BEATING the Lions, 13-7.

crying Dawson

So...yeah.

The FOX guys are going on and on that Jeff Fisher and the Rams are "outsmarting" Stafford. I have no rebuttal, save for...

burn it all

The Lions and Stafford get the ball the back. Stafford says, "Enough of this shit, I'm chuking it to Megatron!"

megatron

51 yards later, the Lions are on the edge of red zone.

drop

But so much for the good feelings, as Pettigrew drops a TD pass on 2nd down, and...

near pick

...on 3rd down, Stafford keeps the play alive on a scramble, but makes another dumb throw that should have been picked off.

The Lions are lucky to settle for 3.

The half ends with the Rams leading the Lions 13-10 as the Lions hear a smattering of boos when heading down the tunnel. The only reason the boos were smattering wasdue to the fans being in shock over Stafford's rotten half.

Well, I didn't want to see the Lions have to do it this season, but they'll have to win by coming from behind. Not exsctly optimal NFL strategy.

Despite the Lions leading Rams 231 to 91 in total yards, the half was one long...

punch...fopr Lions fans.
